Broadband Reflector with Chirped Grating
  • SiN/SiO - based waveguide structure with a surface - relief grating
  • 200 periods
  • Cosine-shaped chirp: p = 0.44...0.47 µm
  • Addition of local stop-bands!

VMM model:

  • 100k unknowns, occupies ~500 MB RAM
  • Execution time: ~40 sec / wavelength-point on a computer with a 2.4 GHz CPU
  • Our VMM - model ist able to describe effects like:
    • directional behavior;
    • insertion losses due to field-mismatch at the grating interfaces;
    • parasitic Fabry-Perot resonances
    which cannot be simulated by simple 1D effective index models ignoring radiation effects
