MIMO UMTS for future packet services

Within the framework of the "MIMO UMTS for future packet services" project in cooperation with the Forschungszentrum Telekommunikation (ftw) MIMO channels for high-speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) subsystem of the UMTS standard will be examined. HSDPA is an asymmetrical protocol and should enable downlink data rates of up to 15 MBit/s. Efficient receiver structures for MIMO HSDPA are to be developed in this project so that the data rates demanded by the standard can be achieved. The research team is looking for WCDMA equalizer algorithms of low complexity to replace the widespread RAKE architecture, which is not suitable for MIMO technology with its high processing power requirements. Investigations into indoor channel models complete the research plan. The algorithms can then be tested on our development platform.
