Environmental Monitoring

Our research focuses on environmental monitoring, because well founded data is prerequisite for risk and resource management in the environment. All over Europe. These Decision Support Tools are based on environmental measuring data, which is also stored. Europe however, has a fundamental problem, namely the heterogeneity, lack of comparability and insufficient availability of data. In order to address this we are

• taking part in the integrated project ORCHESTRA (Open Architecture and Spatial Data Infrastructure for Risk Management) in the Sixth Framework Program of the European Union. The goal is the development of an open system architecture for risk management and the creation of a European-wide platform for information exchange in the areas of risk management and environmental management.
• are coordinating and managing SANY, an Integrated European Project, the objectives of which are: to specifiy and develop a service oriented architecture for all environmental sensor types; to develop advanced data and model-based fusion & decission support for environmental risk management; to validate the S@ny RTD work in several demonstrative use cases covering the areas of air pollution, marine risks and geo hazards.
