In 2003, operation of the system for optical coin identification and coin sorting (called ‘Dagobert’) was started to support the Austrian charity campaign „Licht ins Dunkel“. The single coins are handled by high performance image processing in combination with attached mechanics. This system is able to recognise over 1,000 different images of coins.
